Surveillance and Technology
Surveillance and Technology on Better Than Us
In this show surveillance plays a great roll on people's life. Everything or pretty mush everything has cameras installed to it. Culturally it seems that people have just accepted to be watched by a camera 24/7 as long as its the company of the camera the only ona with access to the video. During the show we can see how the police uses the access to the cameras around the city to follow criminal behaviors. Apparently the police has access to these cameras whenever they want to use them for public safety.
Having cameras all around the city or all around your house can be very useful when it comes to stop the crime, but it has severe issues when we talk about privacy. On the show we see how Gregory's wife installs micro cameras all around his house when he is not there, just to see if commits any infractions while taking care of her sons. She does this without his concern and in case he commits any infraction use it against him on court to win the custody over her sons.
There are cameras and the police is a allowed to use them to track down the criminals, but this doesn't mean that the crime has dissapered. Big companies like the one that created Arisa can alternate the images to make cover up crimes. This is a big practice of recursive fraud with an use of deepfake software. On the show we see this in the beginning when the company tries to cover up what Arisa did to the worker. They hid the images and then when they finally came out, they made it seem like he only had a stroke. When in reality Arisa choked him to death.
